21st Young People's Festival

Saturday, 3rd February 2007

The Three MCs - Ken, David and John - at The Young People's Festival, Southport.

The 21st Young People's Festival was held on Saturday, 3rd February at the Floral hall, Southport. Our Pipe Major, Stewart Lyell led the Grand Parade - several the dignitaries followed by 10 groups of dancers and their teachers paraded round the hall. After a short, warm friendly speech by the Mayor of Wigan, Councillor Mrs Eunice Smethurst, the dancing started. Two hundred youngsters dancing to the lively music of Ian Slater, it was indeed a grand afternoon! Part way through there was the cutting of the birthday cake and a presentation to all the teachers was made. Lindsay Powell and Elisa Wood gave a charming Highland Duet entitled "Gerald's Fancy". When the certificates were presented to the groups the Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Thomas E. Mann, he addressed us all saying what a wonderful afternoon it was and he could see how much the dancers were enjoying themselves and he congratulated the parents for encouraging their children to be involved in this kind of activity. At the end of the Dashing White Sergeant the balloons came tumbling down, what fun was had by all!
